Theatre for Development has grown into a business of its own during the last fifteen years. Yet conflicting interests of stakeholders, agents and the addressees remained unresolved.
Government and NGOs utilize Theatre for Development without foundational philosophy, facilitators and practitioners often lack theatre skills and adeuate methodology. Thus the emancipatory effect of TfD rarely reaches its real audience in the villages or the periurban areas.
Christopher Odhiambo deals with the major issues of TfD (AIDS, health, community, ethnicity) and provides examples from the different areas of Kenya (coast, highlands, Lake Victoria region, Mountain regions).
