Photographer Daniel Biskup takes us with him as he walks through the city St. Petersburg that became the scene of the Russian Revolution in 1917. Inside former aristocratic dwellings that are today kommunalkas – socialist communal apartments. Inside artists’ studios and courtyards from the tsarist era as well as inside fashionable restaurants and clubs. And to the square in front of the Winter Palace, where victory over Nazi Germany is celebrated every year in May, when aged war veterans are cheered also by young people. Biskup thus succeeds in presenting an exceptional portrait of this city so rich in contrast.
