24 Nairobi

von ,

In July 2007, a few friends around a table in a restaurant in Nairobi formed the idea to create a book about the real
Nairobi. 24 Nairobi is the result of that meeting, a publication that transcends media stereotypes of the city, employing
locally based photographers and writers to tell their stories, with an emphasis on the unseen working life of the city.
Books on the world’s most famous metropolises are common enough, but 24 Nairobi is the first to explore Nairobi in
an imaginative, comprehensive way. The city has a turbulent past: just over 100 years old, it was the first apartheid city
in Africa, and has been shaped by military unrest, incessant slums and industrialisation. Today Nairobi is home to four
million contradictory personal histories; 24 Nairobi does justice to those histories.
