Abstrakt – Spatial

Malerei im Raum

The catalog brings together a variety of artistic positions that each work with painting in space. All the approaches have one thing in common: they rely on an abstract-geometrical formal language. The common denominator between all of the artistic positions introduced here is that their discourse- driven methods extend the concept of painting as a medium into sculpture and installation, as well as establishing
a Constructivist visual vocabulary that reflects spatial parameters. Some of the works included in the exhibition were conceived especially for this show. All of the approaches exhibited see painting and the image as the central reference value (also) reflected in their use of other media. The compilation of these heterogeneous positions, some of which nevertheless have strong formal links, makes a contemplation of the tense relational framework between painting and its three- dimensional neighboring disciplines possible.
