Doubts regarding the intellectual honesty of everyday ethical discourse primarily relate to two of its fundamental assumptions. First: Ethical judgments are truth-apt. Second: Ethical claims are claims of reason. The author offers a new line of defense for these assumptions. The principal reference points in his argument are the language philosophy approaches of Ludwig Wittgenstein and Robert Brandom.
