Oriental Manuscripts in the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences

von , ,

The origin of the collection of Turkish manuscripts in the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences dates back to the 19th century. Today it represents one of the most valuable of its kind in the world. In the description of the manuscripts the method used in the well-known catalogues edited in the last decades was adopted, especially that of the series Katalogisierung der orientalischen Handschriften in Deutschland. The catalogue is divided in three main chapters: Religion, Literature, and Historical works. It provides several indices which make the material more accessible to the reader. 27 plates (miniatures, figures and illuminations) complete the volume.
