„Plants & Animals“ by Sverre Strandberg consists of 51 color photos, double-exposed on 35mm film. While some visual information is lost through this technique, one image also gains something from the other’s motif. The Subjects are found in botanical gardens and zoos, sites where many would bring their own cameras and perhaps return home with similar photos. Strandberg uses his own photographic grammar in this environment. Multi-exposure lends abstract qualities, breaking photography’s close tie to what we view as reality. The position of observing morphs into the act of creating- the book is thus a collection of looking at the act of looking.
