In a number of letters The Real Mr. Kurt gives an account of his middle-class life in the Germany of the early 21st century, looking at his own patterns of behavior and, particularly, those of his contemporaries in a critical and humorous way. Each letter deals with one or more issues and puts them into a context. Mr. Kurt finds himself caught in the machinery of the health craze, comments on changes and ingrained habits of society, and is confronted with the latent dangers of discrimination and racism. His little quirks and those of the people around him are in the focus of this book, as they paint a picture of society as a whole and, in the end, are even reflected in German politics.
